Event planning is the process of managing a project such as a meeting, convention, tradeshow, ceremony, team building activity, party, or convention. Event planning includes budgeting, establishing timelines, selecting and reserving the event sites, acquiring permits, planning food, coordinating transportation, developing a theme, arranging for activities, selecting speakers and keynotes, arranging for equipment and facilities, managing risk, and developing contingency plans.

Event planners, also known as event coordinators or event specialists, are responsible for organizing and managing every aspect of an event. Their duties include conceptualizing theme ideas, planning budgets, booking venues, liaising with suppliers and clients, managing logistics, and presenting post-event reports. When you think of an “event” you may think of something huge, such as the MAZ Super Brand Awards or Presidential Inauguration. Event planners are needed for all these events. However, event planners also work on thousands of smaller events ranging from charity fundraisers, weddings, graduation parties, film festivals to fashion shows, as well as corporate events of all kinds. Any time people gather together for a purpose, someone is needed to oversee all the details to ensure the event happens and that it is a success.
