The Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) recently hosted an engaging Meetup on September 27, 2024, at the Wise Owl Hotel in Mutare. This event, which combined a Skills Workshop with an entertaining Braai & Quiz Night, attracted over 40 participants, creating a unique blend of professional development and social interaction.

The afternoon began with a workshop led by Felix Mambondiani, Head of the MAZ Business Institute, who presented on Essential Selling Skills. Felix provided attendees with practical tips on managing selling activities, emphasizing effective client approach and engagement, as well as the behavior and attitude expected of a successful salesperson. He outlined the sales cycle stages for new prospects, including prospecting, pre-approach, approach, presentation, closing, and follow-up, stressing the importance of knowing one’s product thoroughly. He advised that salespeople should proactively address questions and use symbols or demonstrations to showcase how their product or service can meet client needs.

As evening fell, the atmosphere shifted to a more casual vibe for the Braai & Quiz Night, hosted by Diamond FM’s Moses Sibanda. Attendees formed teams and tackled an array of questions that ranged from marketing knowledge to general trivia. The competition was fierce, but Cimas emerged as the winner, with Moneymart Finance securing a close second. The Braai & Quiz Night proved to be a fantastic opportunity for attendees to unwind, enjoy some delicious food, and connect with peers in a relaxed setting.

The event brought together representatives from several prominent companies, including Nyaradzo Group, Manica Skyview Hotel, Tongaat Hullets, Prowess Technologies, and Humcomp Enterprise. The diverse group of participants highlighted the strength of the marketing community in Zimbabwe and underscored the importance of networking and knowledge-sharing within the industry.

MAZ’s Mutare Meetup exemplified the association’s commitment to fostering marketing excellence by providing a platform for professionals to build skills, exchange ideas, and forge meaningful connections. As MAZ looks to the future, it remains dedicated to offering similar events across different regions, further strengthening the marketing profession and promoting economic sustainability in Zimbabwe.
