MAZ giving back to the community at Chokera Primary School

Often times we take the privileges of health, shelter, food or simply having a pair of shoes for granted. As an Association we realised how much something seemingly basic, can change someone’s life, when MAZ board members and staff members, went to Chokera School to donate school shoes to primary school children from the ages of 5 – 8, on the 5th of December 2017.  Chokera School is primary school, located deep in the heart of Gutu, 52km from Mpandawana Growth Point. This donation was from proceeds of the inaugural MAZ Charity Golf Day, hosted by MAZ on the 4th of August, where over 120 golfers converged.

This initiative was termed “MAZ Donate a shoe Campaign”.  This initiative will continue over the years, whereby the Association will be donating school shoes to those who otherwise cannot afford to buy a decent pair. With the current economic instability, it is not shocking to discover that the future leaders of tomorrow have to walk barefoot, sometimes braving rough roads and bad weather to get an education. Hence, contributing to the betterment of the lives of others cannot be downplayed and it is the responsibility of everyone, especially the corporate world. The donation also coincided with Chokera’s ECD graduation ceremony.

Others who benefitted from the proceeds of the Golf Day were FACEZ (Fund a Child’s Education Zimbabwe), where MAZ donated school fees. FACEZ is an organization whose vision is to build a powerful local based education fund that assists marginalized and under privileged children to attain a brighter future through access education and holistic support.

Another cause which benefitted from the golf day is the MAZ Innovative Fund. This cause is mainly directed at students whereby Marketing Associations in colleges and universities, will be asked to come up with proposals for a start-up business project. The winning University will be given money to start the project from the MAZ Innovative Fund. During the Golf Day cocktail, student association representatives from Bindura University, Chinhoyi University and Midlands State University were handed over with a cheque which will be given to the student association that comes up with the most innovative entrepreneurial project.

As the year comes to a close, MAZ is inviting everyone in another charity donation exercise, whereby we are appealing for everyone drop either a packet, a tin or a bag of dried food or clothes at the Superbrand Dinner, which will go to selected charities. For those who will not make to the awards, we are encouraging you to bring any items to the MAZ offices from 11 – 15 December.
